The Prayer You’re Afraid to Pray
Calling Out the Lie That’s Keeping You Small
You’ve been praying safe prayers.
“God, bless my business.” “Lord, give me wisdom.” “Father, order my steps.”
All beautiful prayers. All necessary prayers. But also—if we’re being honest—all comfortable prayers.
Because there’s another prayer sitting in your spirit that you haven’t said out loud yet. The one that makes your heart race just thinking about it. The one that would require you to actually believe God can do what He says He can do.
You know the prayer I’m talking about.
The one where you ask Him for the thing that seems impossible. The one where you stop playing small and start asking big. The one where you actually pray like you believe He’s able to do exceedingly, abundantly above all you could ask or think.
But you won’t pray it. Because what if He says yes?
What You’re Really Afraid Of
Here’s the lie you’ve been believing: “If I ask God for too much, I’ll look greedy. I’ll seem ungrateful. I’ll appear like I don’t trust His timing.”
So you pray small prayers that don’t require much faith. You ask for things that could happen naturally without divine intervention. You keep your requests reasonable, manageable, safe.
You’ve convinced yourself that humility means asking for less. That faith means being content with where you are. That trusting God means not wanting more.
But let me ask you something: When did we start confusing faith with low expectations?
When did we decide that asking God to move mountains meant we didn’t trust Him with molehills?
When did we start believing that wanting the fullness of what He’s called us to was somehow evidence of a lack of gratitude?
The truth? You’re not afraid of God saying no. You’re afraid of Him saying yes. Because yes requires you to step into a version of yourself you’ve never been before. Yes means you can’t hide behind “it’s not God’s timing.” Yes means you actually have to believe you’re who He says you are.
The Lie You’ve Been Believing
“Big prayers are for other people. People more qualified. More anointed. More deserving.”
You’ve been watching other women step into their callings with boldness, and you’ve told yourself they must have something you don’t. More faith. More favor. More certainty.
So you keep your prayers small. Keep your dreams manageable. Keep your expectations low enough that disappointment won’t hurt too much.
You’ve made peace with playing small by calling it contentment. You’ve justified staying hidden by calling it humility. You’ve renamed your fear “waiting on God’s timing.”
But deep down, you know the truth: You’re not waiting on God. He’s waiting on you.
He’s waiting on you to pray the prayer that scares you. To ask for what you really want. To believe that the desires He placed in your heart aren’t there to torment you—they’re there to lead you.
The Moment Everything Shifts
What if today was the day you stopped praying safe?
What if you actually asked Him for the full vision He showed you three years ago? The one you’ve been shrinking down and editing and making more “realistic”?
What if you prayed like you actually believed He’s able?
I’m not talking about name-it-claim-it theology. I’m talking about the kind of faith that looks at impossibility and says, “But God.”
The kind of faith that prays for 100 clients when you currently have 3. The kind of faith that asks for the book deal when you haven’t written the first chapter. The kind of faith that believes for the sold-out program when you’re afraid to post about it on social media.
What if the breakthrough you’ve been waiting for is on the other side of the prayer you’re too afraid to pray?
Operating in Faith NOW
Here’s what I know: God is not intimidated by your big prayers. He’s not shocked by your audacious requests. He’s not offended by your desire for more.
He’s the one who gave you the vision in the first place. He’s the one who placed the dream in your spirit. He’s the one who’s been whispering, “There’s more” every time you’ve tried to settle.
So why are you praying like you’re bothering Him? Why are you asking for crumbs when He’s offering you the whole table? Why are you tiptoeing around the throne room when He’s invited you to come boldly?
The women you’re called to serve need you to pray dangerous prayers. Because when you step into the fullness of what God’s called you to, you give them permission to do the same.
Your small prayers keep you hidden. Your bold prayers change the world.
So here’s my challenge: What’s the prayer you’ve been afraid to pray? The one that makes your hands sweat just thinking about saying it out loud? The one that would require God to actually show up and show out?
Pray it today. Out loud. With your whole chest. And then watch what happens when you stop asking God to bless your plan B and start believing Him for plan A.
Because faith isn’t playing it safe. Faith is praying the prayer that requires a miracle—and then moving like you believe the miracle is coming.
