As women we never stop growing and becoming the women we are destined to become. We will always be a work in progress, developing for the better. As I raked leaves one Saturday morning, this revelation came to me. Leaves will continue to fall from the tree. Just like the leaves, life keeps happening. It never stops. No matter how many times you rake the leaves, there are still some leaves left in the yard. There will not be as many as you initially started with, but as the weeks go by, there are fewer and fewer leaves. You still see leaves and you know they are there, but they are not as bothersome as before. You accept that the leaves will continue to fall in your yard and learn how to manage the leaves. You learn to make peace with them. You have somewhat developed your own system to master the leaves. Just like you master the leaves, you learn to master yourself. Your life is constantly evolving. You learn to master yourself. It’s not always easy. Once you think you have your pile together, you can get rid of that baggage, that hurt, that shame, that defeat, that guilt, those negative thoughts you look back and you still see more of your stuff that you need to deal with. But just like those leaves, you eliminate your obstacles one at a time, little by little. You will always have to deal with your past, and those memories may surface from time to time. However, that is normal. You face what it is, put whatever you think is bringing you down into its proper place, and address the issue and emotion head on. Before you know it, you conquered that issue. You can bag it up and let it go. Wipe your hands clean. You learn from the lesson and keep on moving. Move forward, not backward.
